What is Skilly?

Skilly is a voice-first AI tutor for macOS. You press a hotkey, ask a question out loud, and Skilly screenshots your active app, speaks the answer back, and points your cursor at the exact UI element. Built natively in Swift for macOS 14+, powered by the OpenAI Realtime API. Open source under Apache-2.0 at github.com/tryskilly/skilly. Forked from Farza Majeed's clicky (5,332 GitHub stars). 19$/month after a 15-minute free trial — or paste your own OpenAI key in Settings for free (no card, no subscription). macOS 14.2+. Skilly works in any Mac app and ships with 5 free skill curricula (Blender, Figma, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro).

How it works

Three steps. Zero setup.

How does Skilly work?

Skilly works in three steps. First, you press a hotkey (Control+Option) anywhere on macOS, including in full-screen apps. Second, you ask a question out loud while Skilly captures a screenshot of your active app via the macOS ScreenCaptureKit framework. Third, Skilly streams your voice and the screenshot to the OpenAI Realtime API (released October 2024) and gets a spoken answer back in approximately 500–700 milliseconds, while a blue cursor physically moves to the exact UI element you need. Skilly requires macOS 14.2 or newer and is built natively in Swift with no Electron wrapper. The app is open source under Apache-2.0 at github.com/tryskilly/skilly.

Skills

Works in any app. Skills make it way better.

Skills are optional add-ons that give Skilly two superpowers for specific apps.

  • Always up-to-date knowledge — straight from each app's official docs (beyond the AI's training cutoff), so answers stay accurate and current.

Skilly is open source under Apache-2.0 — you can run it free with your own OpenAI API key (BYOK, shipped in v1.6 on 2026-05-21): paste your sk-proj-... key in Settings → Account → API Key, pay OpenAI directly at ~$0.06–0.10 per minute of voice, and the 15-minute trial gating is bypassed. All plans include access to the 5 free skill curricula (Blender, Figma, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro). Cancel anytime.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What happens if I cancel?
You keep using Skilly until the end of your billing month. Then it simply stops — no extra charges. Resubscribe anytime at the beta price — we lock that price in for life on your account.
Is it safe? What data does Skilly send to OpenAI?
Yes. Audio and a live screenshot stream to OpenAI only while you’re actively talking. Nothing is saved after the session ends, and OpenAI is contractually blocked from training on Skilly sessions. Our analytics log only anonymous metrics — session length, token counts, costs — never your transcripts, screenshots, or prompts.
Why $19 / month? What am I actually paying for?
Real-time voice AI with vision is expensive to run. $19 covers 3 hours of live teaching per month across every skill — more than most users hit. Compared to one-on-one human tutoring at $50–100/hour, one month of Skilly is cheaper than a single lesson.
Can I bring my own OpenAI API key?
Coming soon. We’re adding a BYOK plan at a lower price for users with their own OpenAI Realtime credits — we’re prioritizing the build based on demand. Email hello@tryskilly.app with subject "BYOK" and we’ll notify you the moment it ships, plus lock in early-access pricing for you.
What is Skilly, exactly?
A friendly AI tutor that lives in your Mac menu bar. You talk, it sees your screen, moves the cursor to show you what to click, and speaks the answer in your language. Think of it as a patient expert sitting next to you.
How long is the free trial?
15 minutes of actual usage, one-time, tied to your email. No credit card required. Most people know inside the first session whether Skilly clicks for them.
Which apps does Skilly work with?
Any app on your Mac. Skilly works great even without a skill — Excel, Notion, your browser, a niche CAD tool, anything. With a skill (like Figma or Blender), it gets smarter: step-by-step courses and up-to-date knowledge beyond the AI’s training data. Five skills ship today; a skill builder is coming so you can make your own.
What’s a "skill"?
A skill is like an upgrade for one specific app — Skilly gets the latest instructions, shortcuts, and a full learning path so it can teach you properly. One subscription gives you every skill we release, current and future.
What happens when I hit my 3 hours?
Skilly pauses until your next billing cycle. No surprise charges. We email you at 80% and 100% so you’re never caught off guard.
Can I build my own skill?
Not yet, but we’re building a simple skill creator. Want early access? Just email hello@tryskilly.app.
Which operating systems work?
Right now: macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon Macs only. Windows, Linux, and mobile are coming — join the waitlist below to be notified.
Will the price change after beta?
Yes. Beta users keep the $19 price forever — even after we add more features. New users will see different pricing once the beta ends.
