Understand DaVinci Resolve’s unique 7-page architecture — the single most important concept for any new user. Here’s how to do it in DaVinci Resolve on macOS, step by step — part of the free DaVinci Resolve beginner curriculum.

What you’ll do
- Identify the 7 page tabs at the very bottom of the screen: Media, Cut, Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight, Deliver
- Navigate between pages using the tab bar or keyboard shortcuts (Shift+1 through Shift+7)
- Understand that each page is a specialized environment for a different stage of post-production
- Identify the Media Pool in the upper-left of the Edit page
- Identify the Timeline in the bottom half of the Edit page
- Identify the Source Viewer (left) and Timeline Viewer (right) on the Edit page
- Open Project Settings via the gear icon in the bottom-right corner
- Set timeline resolution (e.g., 1920x1080 for HD, 3840x2160 for 4K) in Project Settings > Master Settings
- Use JKL for playback: J = reverse, K = stop, L = forward; press L multiple times to increase speed
- Use Space to play/stop on any timeline page
