DaVinci Resolve Media Import (beginner guide)

Bring footage into your project and organize it in the Media Pool before you start editing. Here’s how to do it in DaVinci Resolve on macOS, step by step — part of the free DaVinci Resolve beginner curriculum.

What you’ll do

• Open the Media page (Shift+1) to browse and import files
• Navigate to your footage using the Media Storage browser (top-left panel on the Media page)
• Drag clips from Media Storage into the Media Pool (bottom-left panel on the Media page)
• Import media from the Edit page using Command+I (File > Import > Media)
• Drag clips directly from Finder into the Media Pool on the Edit page
• Create bins (folders) in the Media Pool by right-clicking > Add Bin — use bins to organize footage by scene or type
• Preview a clip in the Viewer by double-clicking it in the Media Pool
• Understand the frame rate dialog: when you drop the first clip on an empty timeline, always click “Change” to match the timeline frame rate to the clip
• Check clip properties by right-clicking in the Media Pool > Clip Attributes
